The Big Reveal Is Coming… And It’s Not Samaras!

Tomorrow is the day! After nine days of build-up, nine daily articles, and nine players revealed, we are now just one sleep away from announcing who you voted as the number one Celtic player of the 2024-25 season and, if you’ve been following, I bet you have no idea who’s won(!)

For those who don’t know, this has been a return to tradition. The Celtic Underground Top Ten was a staple in the early days of this site and podcast. It was always a brilliant way to wrap up a season and reflect on the players who stood out most in the eyes of the support. After a few years away, we decided to bring it back this year – and the response has been superb.

Subscribers to the CU community chat group were given the opportunity to vote for their top players of the season. From that, we’ve been rolling out one player per day in countdown style – complete with a short profile and analysis of their campaign – building up to the final reveal.

And here we are. We’ve counted down from 10 to 2. You now know 9 of the 10 names in the 2024-25 CU Top Ten. Tomorrow, the final name will be revealed. The best player of the season according to you. The player who, across league, cup and Europe, delivered consistently, stood up in the big moments, and earned the admiration and adulation of the CU faithful (but unless you’ve been living on Mars, you’ll know who it is already).

For those still pondering who… sadly it wasn’t Samaras. Yes, we spotted the coordinated campaign from 101 fake accounts all voting for our long-haired Greek God. While we appreciate the effort, those votes were weeded out. And while there were some wonderfully obscure votes – a nod to Yang and Sinasalo who each picked up a single solitary vote – the top of the table was a tightly contested affair between a handful of genuinely outstanding performers.

But wait… that’s not all.

While the countdown for the 2024-25 Top Ten wraps up tomorrow, things are only just heating up here at CU Towers. As many of you will know, we are about to begin our twentieth season of the podcast (the world’s longest running football fan podcast I’ll have you know). Yes, every new episode is another day we extend the record. And we’re celebrating this milestone in style.

Over the past fortnight, we’ve been building towards the creation of your all-time Celtic UEFA Champions League XI. We’ve posted nominations for each position – goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders, wingers and strikers – and asked for your votes to shape the ultimate Brendan Rodgers-style 4-3-3 team. Voting technically closed yesterday, but if you’re running a little late, your pick might still sneak in.

So here’s what’s coming: tomorrow we announce the winner of the 2024-25 Top Ten, and then over the next ten days or so we’ll be compiling your votes for the ultimate CU Champions League XI. When that’s complete, we’ll drop bumper podcasts revealing the full team. Player by player. Line by line.

It’s going to be huge. It’s going to be nostalgic. And it’s going to be so bloody exciting.
