Following tonight’s story from Stephen McGowan that Celtic are appointing Paul Tisdale, we decided to have a quick who what why.
Apart from discovering that he’s the most stylish man in football, an initial review of Paul Tisdale might have you scratching your head as to why Celtic are appointing him. A player who had to retire at 26 due to injury, he then went on to manage Bath University before being appointed Exeter manager where he is widely considered to be (along with Alan Ball) their best ever manager - nice to be liked but manager of Exeter might not seem like the rining endorsment that gets him into a senior role at Lennoxtown.
It was during his long stint at Exter that he seemed to gain a big understanding of the principles of player trading and used these when acting as a consultant to clubs including Ado Den Haag FC.
Paul has been working in the world of business menotoring and anlysis, setting up his own company Tis Talks TEAM.
We recently had the 4 part series on the Academy and how it’s (not) working and we also know that whilst we got there in the end with the transfer window, the opinion of senior management was that it got there more by luck than design. These two areas of the club and the functioning of Lennoxtown are the most essential elements that a player trading club needs to work. Whilst the exact nature of the role of Tisdale is not known at this time, we’re sure that a review of the workings of both will be a key element of his evolving remit.
We don’t know how long Celtic have been considering Paul for this role, however The Sun seemed to have missed the possibility of an exclusive by not investigating THEIR OWN STORY back in June!
Back then, they tried to contact Paul to discuss his joy of Ollie Watkins scoring for England at the Euros. Watkins played under Tisdale at Exeter and The Sun approached Paul for comment but he revealed he’d missed the goal because he was at lesser Hampden watching Celtic play Queens Park in the pre-season friendly - you’d have thought someone might have put 2 & 2 together and drilled down on that further!
