I am a man of faith. And that extends to Celtic getting the job done against Young Boys tomorrow night to confirm a Champions League life beyond this ginormous new group stage.

I am not blase. Brendan Rodgers’ men haven’t been fluent or convincing enough in the past two months to be so. Equally, though, there are reasons beyond any vagaries in their respective draws as to why the Swiss champions are already eliminated from the competition, and Celtic are on the cusp of rubber stamping a last 16 play-off place. (The switch for which will not have been flicked by the buttock-clenching weekend statement from that increasingly Frankenstein’s monster of an ultras group, the Green Brigade, by the way). And all being well, the question for me turns to how to contextualise the feat of emerging from this reformatted and mightily-enlarged Champions League group stage.
