The news last week that settlement had been agreed in twenty out of the 28 historic sexual abuses cases involving Celtic Boys Club was probably the beginning of the end of a story that has followed Celtic for some time.
A story which we all hate talking about and don’t like to discuss. Principally because supporters of others clubs have weaponised and used it to score points. But also I suspect because we know from the information that’s out there, that this wasn’t just a few random cases. The level of abuse that went on in the boys club was by all accounts far greater than what occurred at other sides.
I genuinely thought long and hard before writing this as it is a subject that is not easy to put in words and one that requires sensitivity. And I have no wish to either add any trauma to victims or give ammunition to those who use the case in a game of “one upmanship”. This piece is about what went on at Celtic Boys Club and how Celtic FC handled the matter.
