The Green Brigade revealed more than just a display this week

I must admit to feeling a little dumped with what unfolded - literally - ahead of Tuesday night’s win over Aberdeen. More specifically the display from the North Curve section that commemorated Brendan McFarlane.
Now this had nothing to do with the fact that McFarlane was a major figure in the Provisional IRA’s armed struggle against British rule in the north of Ireland. The Green Brigade, who created this tifo, are unrepentant over the focus they place on the events and conflicts that have arisen from Britain’s imperialist oppression on the island of Ireland. Witnessed from the days of Oliver Cromwell to Margaret Thatcher, and all points in between. As I see it. And a sizeable section of the wider Celtic support have sympathies with the stances they take over the guerilla war ensuing from the gerrymandering that led to the Six Counties being gouged out of an independent, republican Ireland little more than a century ago.
