That time when football couldn't make the back pages and we could all enjoy summer sport
It's summer of 1984 and I'm on holiday with the family in Ibiza, and my brother and I are out looking for the day-old British newspapers to find out what was happening two days ago back home. We weren't looking for the front page news, it was just sport we were interested in. And although I like my cricket, it was with delight that we spotted a Daily Record for some up to date Scottish orientated sports news.
Older readers will remember prior to the internet and satellite TV that your only access to what was going on back home was to pick up a newspaper and that it would be a day old. It was always the English papers and you’d get the coverage of Wimbledon or the Windoes smashing through the English batsmen. But on this holida, my brother and I were absolutely delighted when we spotted a Daily Record. It was two days old and not the one-day-old of the English papers, but it was a Daily Record with Scottish News.
