Squad Planning - 3 Players Required This Summer?

Brendan Rodgers was quoted as saying that when he looked at the squad we had at the end of the season, he felt we needed 3 players. Now I’m not sure who in his mind he was calculating as part of his squad. Was he including Tierney who today signed until 2030? Was he including Schlupp, who went back to Crystal Palace and is now a free agent? That would be 3 becoming 4. We could say the same about the likes of Bain and Taylor, meaning we now need 6… Your guess is as good as mine, so let’s have a little look at this summer, then we can build on this later and look to the winter window, and at that point we will also be able to have a look at next summer and beyond.

The above details the players' contract expiry, and the "?" denotes players who we have reasons to believe may be subject to interest/looking to depart within the next 6 or 7 months. It does not include players who had no real active part of match day squads during last season. On the basis of that image, I’d suggest we need 4 players to move into that picture and get that squad to a comfortable 25. I’d also give credit to the club for getting guys like Carter-Vickers and AJ signed to long-term deals, having signed new terms before their first contract was close to expiring.
