Tonight, Celtic take on Slova Bratislava in the opening game of the new format Champions League. It’s one of the biggest UEFA co-efficient differentials Celtic have enjoyed in UCL proper and is reviewed in this week’s free to air podcast. For that podcast, Ross Hall pulled together some notes for the guys on the strengths of our opponents and the areas where Celtic need to improve. Here’s what he said:

Quick view Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia) – Nike Liga

Currently 1st

5 wins / 1 loss -  15 points

11 goals scored / 8 conceded

Last season they won the league with 23/4/5 record = 73 points (32 games) with a GD of +45 (76 scored / 31 conceded)

Latest results: (Most recent first)

Won away to 3rd place DAC 2-1

Won away to AC Nitra – Futbal (Lower league – Cup game) 5-0

Lost at home to 2nd place Zilnia 5-0

CL Qualifying (Most recent first):

Beat Midjytlland (Denmark) 4-3 on aggregate

Beat APOEL (Cyprus) 2-0 on agg

Beat NK Celje (Slovenia) 6-1 on agg

Beat FC Struga Trim & Lum (North Macedonia) 6-3 on agg

They generally average around 17 shots per game domestically and over the 2 legs vs Midjytlland they and 26 attempts on goal, so a slight drop against better opposition, but you can see they play with an attacking threat. From those 26 attempts over the 2 legs 8 were classed as big chances and they’ve scored 4 goals.
