This is a move I genuinely didn’t think would fall into our laps. This is a guy who, if you were projecting where he’d go in the NFL draft, especially when you account for cost, then you’d be thinking first round, and one of the teams who has good links with the Danish system (Brighton, Brentford, Ajax and even Dortmund) will look at the fee, and at the the risk vs reward and say this is a no-brainer.

At 23, Benjamin Nygren has had his ups and downs. A move from his homeland to Genk at the age of 17. Genk, a club that has a decent record at finding good young attackers, but it was a move that maybe happened a touch early for him, and his few appearances didn’t really spark the excitement levels.

In 2020 he joined another team that has a good history of finding and improving young attacking players when he joined Dutch side Heerenveen on loan. While the performances started well over the first of his 2 seasons on loan, they tapered off in the second season, and in Jan 22, FC Nordsjælland, yet another club that has a good record with young players, picked him up for a bargain fee of around £600,000.
