Stooshies rarely come more stooshorific - even in Celtic land - than the one Brendan Rodgers ignited by calling out supporters at the weekend.

Yet, as unbelievable as it may seem in light of the verbiage devoted to the Celtic manager daring to take fans to task, one potential explanation for at least the initial element of his criticisms doesn’t seem to have been given any airing. Now, even at a superficial level, I felt Rodgers was well within his rights to nip over the lack of “patience” evidenced in the crowd grumbling over an early pass backwards in Sunday’s 3-0 win over St Mirren at Celtic Park. The adjunct to that, his snarking over the “lack of respect” for Greg Taylor, which was the line he drew from the chants of the Green Brigade aired amid the expected imminent return of prodigal son Kieran Tierney, may have been a little clumsier. Toasting Tierney needn’t have been perceived as a slight on Taylor. But, there again, I had little issue with Rodgers seizing on the incident as an opportunity to show a little love to a player who is shown all too little love by the fanbase. At a time when he is desperate to avoid losing the full-back as the player enters the closing months of his current Celtic contract.
