Long live Celtic longevity
Andrew H on the joy of Celtic having professionals chosing the club as a longterm destination
There is nothing quite like a Celtic roasting of Rangers to make you feel all is right in a world where so much is wrong. Even if that is a transitory state.
Yet, what cast an extra warm glow for me in watching Brendan Rodgers’ side lead their shrinking rivals not so much a merry dance but a full-blown ceilidh on Sunday was that it had everything to do with the very antithesis of transitory. The real affection to be felt for the current playing and management set-up at the club is not just that, by Jiminy, they mean it in attacking their endeavours with such gusto. It is how long they have meant it, and how long they might mean it for.
Celtic are not currently served by any fly-by-nights (we are looking at you Paolo di Canio and Jorge Cadete…to name but two in a long list). The performances of the current crop are not about self-aggrandisement; not about putting themselves in the ‘shop window’. Even if certain players will obviously, and understandably, harbour playing ambitions beyond the east end of Glasgow. It is about revelling in the satisfaction to be derived from the communion between team dynamics and support; giving the best of yourself in a structure molded by Rodgers that offers the return of professional and personal satisfaction.
