It is not melodramatic to suggest that the revolutions spinning Celtic and Rangers in completely different directions across the past six months could settle supremacy rights for the next six years.
Cast your mind back to the start of March, if able to do so without being afflicted by a severe dose of the heebie-jeebies. Celtic headed into it simply relieved to leave behind a honking February in which they had spilled points with draws against Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, and led a charmed life not to do likewise in securing skittish, last-gasp wins over Hibs and Motherwell. Meanwhile, a Philippe Clement-inspired Rangers looked to have their number in the title race, as belief grew that Scotland’s three domestic trophies would be residing at Ibrox come May. A prediction proclaimed loudly in some quarters with the Govan club on a nine-game winning run in the Premiership - the longest any team achieved last season - and having dropped only five points in Clement’s six months in charge…a period during which Brendan Rodgers’ men had dribbled away no fewer than 14 points.
