Last night in Munich shows what an elite manager can achieve, now give him the tools
‘Too good for the Premier League, not good enough for the Champions League.’
‘It's an unbridgeable gap.’
That was (and perhaps still is) the mantra of many when discussing Celtic. We have a revenue that handicaps us when we participate against the European elite, but a revenue that blows every other Scottish club out of the water and as a consequence, in domestic football we are experiencing an unprecedented period of success with doubles and trebles arriving at a rate those of us of a certain age could only have dreamed of pre-Fergus. When we go up to the big boys league our £120 million revenue is dwarfed by the likes of Bayern with their £1 billion income and results have reflected this. The often heard statement would be, "We could go and spend £20 million in the transfer market this summer, and it still wouldn't be enough."
Perhaps not anymore.
