Fix the roof while the sun is shining
Prudence is understandable, but let's complete Espanyolification
One of my favourite fables is that of the scorpion and the frog. I'm sure most are familiar with it, but for those who aren't [and I'm butchering the story for the sake of brevity] a scorpion approaches a frog and asks him to transport him across the river. The frog initially refuses, telling the scorpion that he won't because he'll kill him with his stinger, to which the scorpion replies that that would be stupid, because if he did that, he would kill both of them. The frog sees the logic of this argument, tells the scorpion to hop on board and starts making his way across the river. Halfway across the frog feels the sharp pain of the scorpion's stinger going in his back, and as he's dying. He asks the scorpion why he did this as they're both going to die, to which the scorpion replies, "Because I'm a scorpion."
People cannot help being who they are. It may seem ungenerous to compare Peter Lawwell to a scorpion, and I'm not saying that he had murderous tendencies, however, I am saying that he is what he is, he was what he was, and to some extent, he couldn't help it and yet he was criticised by the Celtic fan base for being very good at who he is. What I mean is that accountants and lawyers, to be accountants and lawyers (to achieve the qualifications, and to be attracted to the industry) are people of a certain personality. They achieve the appropriate university degree, and this is followed by years of post-qualification training. One of those essential elements of that training is to be conservative. To be risk averse.
