Moving On From First Base…
One of the best things about moving over to Substack has been the brilliant community that’s grown around the Celtic Underground chat. It’s been a breath of fresh air being able to debate, discuss, and share a laugh with fellow Celtic fans—without someone randomly derailing the chat with “What about Res 12?” or shouting about “pedos.” In short, it’s been civil and it’s been smart. A credit to your parents!
Thecelticunderground.substack.com has now been home to The World’s Longest Running Football Fan Podcast for a full year, and it feels like we’ve built something really special together. But like any great partnership, it’s time to move things on a bit. We’re ready to take the relationship beyond first base!
Over the coming weeks, we’ll be leaning on you—the Celtic Underground Community—for your thoughts, your opinions, your banter.
First up: this Friday, we’re recording our bumper End of Season Review podcast. As always, we want your comments—your highlights, low points, player thoughts, and Ange nostalgia (just kidding… maybe). Send them in and we’ll get as many on as we can.
Next, the much-anticipated return of the world-famous Celtic Underground Top 10 Players of the Year. Who stood out? Who delivered? Who wore the jersey with pride? And will Georgios Samaras somehow win it again? We'll be opening up the polls soon, followed by the classic countdown—and a podcast to argue over who really should’ve taken the top spot.
And that’s not all. After the Top 10, we’re bringing back The Game podcast—same heart, same passion, slightly updated format. It’s all about that one match that means something deeply personal to one fan. This time, that fan could be you.
Finally, there’s the long-awaited vote to create the Celtic Champions League XI. Who makes the cut? Who gets left out? Who sparks the fiercest debate?
Unlike the 70s when players came back from pre-season over weight and full of alcohol after very little exercise, we have no intention of throwing up across the metaphorical sandunes of pre-season podcasts. We’ll be as busy through the summer as we were during the season, but we need you. We’ll need the CU community to give us questions for the podcast, give us votes for player of the year and appear on the podcast to discuss The Game.
So keep an eye out, get involved, and help shape the next phase of the Celtic Underground journey.
To quote the sage Gerry Cinammon, let’s make it a belter.
Maybe an idea or not - but personally I like the listener questions segments - if possible maybe you could share the subject matter on Substack and invite folk to fire a question to you based on the topic and spread the debate further.
