I have written extensively since we set up the substack site about the need for capital expenditure on the stadia and other facilities because I see it as essential for multiple reasons. For customer service reasons, reasons of prestige and for reasons of necessity but perhaps the most compelling is for reasons of furture proofing.
My uni dissertation had the very catchy title of '“Delictual Liability of Sports Clubs To Their Members and Spectators".” The law of delict is a Scots law term covering civil wrongs in areas such as negligence and liabilities. As the title suggests, a large part of the work focussed on football stadia and the multiple disasters that afflicted our game throughout the 20th century, culminating in Hillsborough.
