All Time Celtic UCL XI - The Midfielders
Vote Now: Who Features in Your All-Time Celtic Champions League Midfield 3?
Celtic have always been renouned as an attacking team. Whilst the greatest players of some clubs were defensively minded,so many of the famous bhoys have been middle to front men and so, after reviewing the keepers and defenders we now start to get the really hard choices. We’re now moving into the middle of the park. The players who carry the tempo, link defence and attack, and set the tone on those “special European nights under the lights” (© every Radio Scotland football pundit). Yes, it's time to pick the midfielders for the Celtic Underground All-Time Champions League XI, and the depth here is… well, impressive.
Spanning from Lambert and Lennon to McGregor and O’Riley, this is a group stacked with big-game experience, technical brilliance, and moments of pure magic.
First things first, remember the rules. Sorry but you don’t get tp pick the system. We had to have a way to compare apples with apples (robuts with robots if you’re on Android) and so we landed on having the current manager (Brenand) and his current system (4-3-3). That means, when considering you’re all-time Celtic UCL XI you too are picking a midfield three in a 4-3-3 formation playing the Brendan Rodgers posession based way. That means your trio needs balance: a holder, a creator, and someone to link and press. It’s not enough to cram in three number 10s. We need a 6 & an 8 too. No playing silly buggers. This midfield has to function.
So, who do you go with?
Let’s start with the captains.
